Square Off moves from Xbox 360 into the Windows Phone 7
A number of games originally from Xbox are already transitioning to the Windows Phone 7. One of them is Twin Blades. Armored Valley was also released for WP7. Now, as addition to the list of games, critically acclaimed Gnomic Studios will now transform Square off as a WP7 game. Square Off started out in the Microsoft Dream. Build. Play contest in 2009. it debuted as a full on Xbox Game for the Indie Games later in 2009. soon the game will move to the WP7 domain but it still has high hopes that it will get approval for Xbox Live.
The concept
Square off is one of those invasion stories where a bunch of aliens were set to invade planet Earth. Certain scientists take some of his Brain Cells and infuse them with the Alien DNA. The Square creature and he strapped a rocket pack on it and a new defender was born. It is a game that you should not take that seriously. You can definitely see its lighthearted appeal with the cartoon imagery set on a 3D background. The game is a twin stick shooter. You can say that it is a much simpler format of the Rocket Riot. In the game, the players fly around using the rockets and the aim is to blast all the enemies until nothing is left of them.
The Xbox version and format of Square off is centered on multiplayer gaming. However, WP7 is still dedicated to single player games. In order to make the game a lot richer even without multiplayer capabilities, Square Off for WP7will include the survival mode. This is will be included to the 7 level campaign that is single player. According to Gnomic Studios, the Windows Phone 7 version will be released around April so gamers looking for new WP7 action should definitely keep posted for new events that will happen.
According to the level artist, Adam Matera, they aimed to the WP7 platform since they just released the game on a very large platform which is the Xbox Live Indie Games. They aim to go for a smaller platform before starting over with a new big game. Since the Market place has been released for the Windows Phone 7, Matera stated that it is a fantastic opportunity to try out a new platform which is mobile game development. As said, the Square off game will include the single player level version from Xbox and it will be complete with all the scoreboards and statistics. The survival mode is a test of stamina against the alien forces. The controls have been redesigned and optimized for the purpose of mobile gaming. The company still aims to retain the overall look and feel but in a more compact screen environment.
Aside from the info about the April release, the company also plans to create a demo version as well as a free version. You can visit their website if you want to know more about the game and how it looks.
