Windows just released a statement about its competitive plans for 2011. They elaborated a number of new updates for the Windows Phone 7 that will arrive in the coming months. The company also highlighted the new partnerships mainly with handset maker, Nokia. The company is set to offer more competitive and faster systems and hopes that the mass market will recognize the position of the Windows Phone 7 in the mobile market. Here are some of the snippets of what the company is planning come 2011 and 2012 and other future plans. 2011 is a notable year in the mobile industry. Instead of hardware, there is great attention over the ecosystems. Right now, there is the move to create a diverse option of intuitive ecosystems that are designed to offer a strong relationship between applications, services, software and hardware. The movement has become very fast. It was just 1 year ever since Windows Phone 7 was shown to the public. Windows Phone 7 offers everything that Microsoft can offer from Xbox Live, hotmail, Bing, Office and Windows Live and integrate all of them with applications such as Facebook. The team aims to offer a system that is most convenient to use for mobile phone users for the most intuitive mobile experience. In the recent Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer announces different features that consumers will be expecting within the year. The first major update will be available for free for all users within the first 2 weeks of March where they can get added features like copy/paste and snappier performance updates. Another update is the availability of the CDMA networks that allows more customers in other networks. There will also be integration of Twitter in People Hub by the second half of 2011. Windows Phone 7 will also have cloud storage for Office Documents. There is also new generation browsing with the Internet Explorer 9 for more intuitive web browsing. Lastly, there is a better multitasking capability. The additional features will be available across 2011. Microsoft is gearing towards stronger partnerships between mobile phone makers, developers and operators. These strong partnerships aim to increase innovations and lower price points and finally access the mass market and affect market shares in the long term. Recently, the company already sealed the deal with Nokia as one of its handset maker partners. Microsoft aims to put their skills in software and service expertise together with the hardware know-how of Nokia as well as mapping and imaging. The system will also be backed by Microsoft’s, most powerful labels like Xbox live, NAVTEQ, Bing and Nokia. The partnership with Nokia and other handset makers really enriches the mobile ecosystem to provide more options for developers, operators and most importantly for consumers. The company will be offering more information regarding its other partnerships in the coming months and by 2012, Windows based Phones will be in full swing in the market, geared as a competitive option for the current hits in the mobile ecosystems battle.

Microsoft developed and built the Windows Phone 7 from ground up and they did a really fantastic job to reboot and improve the mobile OS. Of course, there is room for improvement for 2011 but for now; we can only assume that everyone is hearing us out with what we want for the Windows Phone 7. More speed. WP7 is absolutely fast within the OS capacity but app speed still needs to be consistent. Some apps work efficiently but other still lag. The applications need not always be extremely complex in design as long as it offers robust design. This will help us manage the speed really well. Landscape keyboard when using IE! It sucks that you have to move around just to type at the address bar, which you cannot access when in landscape mode. Tap to top functionality. We all have long lists of emails and we have tons of tweets and messages to read. Once we are done, the sad part is that we need to slide back all the way to the top. If there is the tap to top setting, it would take less time to get back to the top. Screen shots. It would be more functional if we can have a screen shots. The Android has this feature and web OS and iOS use this feature as well. Why not have it on Windows Phone 7? App for YouTube! We already have Twitter and Facebook and they are solid for the WP7. It would be best if we can have an app that is really dedicated for a more intuitive and solid multimedia experience. This would be a great addition that you will surely love. Intuitive call answering. In the present setup of the WP7, you have to unlock the phone and click on answer. Those two steps already seem too much for a phone that should function as a phone. Memory card friendly! The phone should be more easily compatible with Micro SD cards and memory cards in general. The OS should be fixed with better data management features. Many would like to have added memory using cards since they are more practical. Ring tones that we can love listening to. Default tones are dated and they feel too formal. Many love custom ring tones. If the phone can be customized with new message and call tones, then it would be much more enjoyable to answer the phone or even check your messages. Customization of the home screen! Windows Phone 7 is designed with simplicity as its finest strengths. If Microsoft tweaks the home screen and makes use of existing applications like the Pictures app to customize the phone screen and let users control the number of apps they see, then it will make the phone experience more personal. The internet browser! The current one is not that bad but it has issues with JavaScript. Aside from that, it still feels like something for a desktop. It should be used optimally for phones and not just borrowed software from their big cousins. Via everythingwm

Its a very exciting news for the social networking freaks. You can now enjoy the Windows Phone 7 more with integration to about 70 feeds. For this, Aaron Woodman, the MS director of consumer experiences says: “We will absolutely support Twitter, and we’re working through the Windows Live team to do that. We actually have a pretty significant advantage in the sense that Windows Live has in most cases private reciprocal agreements with social networking. The point is that Windows Live actually helps us interact with those social networking feeds. And you’ll not only see Facebook and Windows Live but over 70 other feeds at launch. So you’ll see pretty wide integration. In terms of contact integration where you see a lot of people show up I think that might be limited to your Webmail bases, so Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, and your corporate mail like Exchange, and then Facebook and Windows Live. I’m not sure whether we will pull contacts from Twitter or just feeds.” About Flash support: “The Flash question is a good one but there are two types of “Nos.” “No we think it’s bad for the end user” or “No we just didn’t get to it.” Flash is in the second camp. The reality is that we have a very good working relationship with Adobe. Adobe announced that they are working on bringing Flash to a future version of Windows Phone. I fully expect that to be something that we support. It’s a really a question of time and how, not a question of whether we think it’s a good thing for end users. We do and we want to get it there. It’s just not there yet.” About multi-tasking: There’s a lot of sensitivity around multitasking. Joe Belfiore talked about it briefly during his presentation, where he said you’ll be able to listen to music and use other applications. We looked at end user behavior quite a bit in the development of the platform, and I think you will see the right behavior for the actual operating system in terms of multitasking. That being said, we’re really focused on the end user so there’s some trade-offs in the way we implemented that, and we’ll talk about that more in March. Via Laptopmag
