We have been reading about Windows Phone on HTC HD2, now it seems we have lived long enough to experience it. Watch this video as it depicts WP7 on HTC HD2. It has some flaws as Live Tiles and Marketplace aren’t working just yet, but all else is working. Security protocol has been cracked, so we should soon see Live Tiles and Marketplace enabled on HTC HD2 as well. Via pocketnow

Let’s put it simply, it is an HD2 running Windows Phone 7 Series OS. No, it is not a mirage. Although HTC has said countless times already that HTC won’t be endowing the HD2 owners with the Windows Phone 7 upgrade, some folks have already somehow put the leaked copy of the 7 OS into their HD2 Windows Phones. They have been able to get everything running well except for the graphics part which is choppy at best. Read our HTC HD2 review via htcpedia

President of HTC’s North American division said today in an interview with Forbes that they are extremely pleased with the first-day sales of the HTC HD2. This is very interesting as people buying HD 2 already know that phones running Windows Phone 7 will be launched at the end of this year and HTC HD2 will not be getting an upgrade to the latest and greatest mobile OS of all time. Basically, the HTC HD2 is a Windows Mobile 6.5 device with a nice, chick UI slapped-on that seems to be doing a decent job in masquerading the dull UI of Windows Mobile 6.x.
HTC HD2’s ROM has been updated to 1.66.405.2. The update is available only to vodafone customers. Take the usual precautions: You need a broadband connection. We recommend that you backup all important content – contacts, photos, ringtones, games etc – stored on your phone before you start. You’ll need your phone’s USB cable. If you don’t have one you can buy one from your local Vodafone store. You’ll also have to download an application to your PC. Look more at vodafone.

HTC HD2 may loose out on Android OS if this report is to be believed.. Peter Chou, the HTC CEO seems optimistic about Windows Mobile and speculates not to have any hands on HD2-Android mix. Have a look at what he said in an interview given to Forbes:

About the HD2

HTC's solution is the HD2, a wafer-thin handset that combines a 4.3-inch touchscreen with a high-end processor for snappy downloads and fast Web browsing. The phone, which was unveiled earlier this month, runs the latest version of Windows Mobile (6.5) as well as some flashy HTC software. "We're working hard on these kinds of products to get excitement about Windows Mobile back," says Chou.

Gadget fans have been clamoring for an Android version of the HD2, but Chou hints that the handset will stay as is. "Technically, we could make the HD2 an Android phone, but I have to take care of Windows Mobile," says Chou.

About competition

"You cannot expect you are the only player in town. … You need other players to come and make the ecosystem stronger."

About the YOU campaign

In the cutthroat smart phone market, even winning favored status with operators can't guarantee strong sales. That's one reason why Chou recently approved HTC's first global advertising campaign. The ads, which play on the word "you" as a sign of the company's commitment to its customers, will roll out across 20 countries in coming weeks.

Views about Motorola dumping Windows Mobile

HTC may be updating its brand, but it's sticking by its longtime partner, Microsoft ( MSFT - news - people ). Though other handset makers such as Motorola have dropped Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system in favor of Android, Chou says HTC has no plans to follow. That doesn't mean he's not frustrated with the software. "Windows Mobile innovation has been a little slow and interest in Windows Mobile phones has been declining," he admits.

It seems as if HTC HD2 never gets enough of its snapshots and reviews. Now it gets reviewed by areamobile, who find the multi-touch device quite better considering the Windows platform.

Grab the quick synopsis:

“The remains unmatched advantage of Apple is the perfect software ecosystem that was created by the company during the past two years. Download and buy music and programs from iTunes and App Store are simply unbeatable. But if one sees the gigantic high-end mobile phone from HTC besides the iPhone, then it is suddenly aware of the many drawbacks of compulsory binding to the PC's iTunes software, the rudimentary Bluetooth support, the rigid arrangement of the user interface, the camera without flash that is not replaceable battery - but especially the high price and the adhesion contract with a network operator.

It has been approvingly accepted with the knowledge, the best phone in the world in your hand and hold. But the competition is the development deficit made up. The HTC HD2 marks the beginning of a new generation of high-end smartphones, the Apple phone can suddenly look very old. The user can rejoice, because he is finally faced with a choice between different smart phones and operating systems, even if he has high standards.”
