Verizon’s first Windows Phone 7 phone has been released and is being sold for $200 on a 2 year contract. The word is soon after the release there will be an update for copy and paste functions along with support for CDMA networks. Engadget has a full review of HTC Trophy

Higher quality paid apps and more free apps for WP7

Microsoft has finally succumbed to demands of developers to increase max of free app submissions in the Marketplace. This should result in better apps and much more good free apps for Windows Phone 7. Here in today's developer newsletter:
During the past months we have been working hard to improve our overall Windows Phone Marketplace experience based on the feedback we received from you and our partners. We heard from many of you that you wanted a higher limit on the maximum number of free apps you could submit for free.
We’ve heard you and are pleased to announce that we‘ve increased that limit from 5 to 100.

Windows Phone 7 customization by Nokia: A good decision?

It has been stated that one of the evils of software and carrier relationships is the extent in which the carrier can customize the use of the OS and that is half the problem with Android. Windows Phone 7 is great since it has robust user interface and performance and if you let manufacturers to tamper with it might dampen its functionality and appeal. It seems like Microsoft has gotten soft on Nokia as they have given Nokia the opportunity to explore customization for WP7. Given that Nokia has a bad record of keeping up to date with the mobile industry; it is safe to say that customization might not be a good idea. Just to the hardware and sell the product and let WP7 be WP7.

According to the CTO of Verizon, Tony Malone, he is skeptical that Windows Phone 7 can be on an equal level as the iOS and the Android OS. As much as he wishes that there are more options for the sake of competition, he is still not convinced that Microsoft's smart phone OS offering can provide the necessary competition. As of the moment, Microsoft is in partnership with Nokia and that might be the reason also why Malone is not really getting into the WP7 offerings since Nokia is not a handset partner of Verizon. It is still too early to make judgments and until we find strong devices from Nokia with Windows Phone 7, this page will remain open for possibilities.
