Windows Mobile Marketplace is set to launch in October, but the unveil may not tempt those using Windows mobile 6.0 or 6.1 because the Marketplace, at least for now is exclusive for the new OS Windows mobile 6.5.

MS will eventually make it available after a few months. Till then, for the older versions - standing in the queue is the best alternative.

Yes, it’s here ‘finally.’ Now the news comes from the folks at the MS that Oct 6 will witness the unveil of the much awaited Operating System Windows Mobile 6.5. That’s not all the Windows Mobile Marketplace, yes the one that invited devs in the Race to Market Challenge will be present too. Another unveils include Microsoft MyPhone, a freeware service.

After a number of leaked builds, the official release seems quite tempting. So, a worldwide launch of handsets at the retail stores with the new OS is expected to be bookmarked on this very day(a freeware can be speculated for some smartphones.) If that was not enough, the news is that carriers like Sprint, Verizon Wireless and AT&T are to jump in as well.

Some ingredients are listed here:

The updated IE browser that's inclusive of a built-in Adobe Flash Lite support and allows easy access to third-party applications such as Facebook, Netflix and Zagat

Windows Mobile Marketplace allowing you direct download of tested and authenticated apps

MyPhone freeware including ‘Find my Phone’ feature

A finger friendly touchscreen that allows you to customize keyboards and widgets

Todd Peters , MS corporate vice president of mobile communications marketing went on to say: "A Windows phone gives people a single phone that works for their whole life, keeping them connected to the people and information they care most about by harnessing the power of the PC, phone and Web."

With a ‘not so good’ financial position and stiff competition from every corner of the world, a powerful growth strategy is a must. Let’s see whether the official 6.5 version goes well with the masses or remains just a temporary craze. Read the official announcement here.

We informed you about the Windows Mobile Marketplace giving chance to the devs to display their expertise. Now the latest ride in the Marketplace World was taken at a petty MS dev camp where the team declared its intentions NOT to sell their apps at a price tag below $0.99. The folks at MS feels that their devs deserve much more.

Loke Uei of the Microsoft’s Mobile Developer Experience Team even went on to say: "It’s up to you play your pricing, but we would definitely want to promote that you make more money selling applications than selling your application in a dollar store.”

The winners in the Race to Market Challenge have quite interesting offers, so a tough battle here. Anyway, the price should match its utility after all. Let’s wait for the final showcase.

Now here’s an application to test applications - Mangler, being sponsored by WinMob blog. The Microsoft Application Verifier (AppVerifier) reviews the app while its running. An App needs to be discovered with respect to heap corruption. Mangler’s here to exactly do that. It helps in scrutinizing the defaults of an app that may not be recognized easily.

Some pre-requisites that an app must have before its finally approved:

should not crash, fail or break into debugger

should be free from invalid pointers associated with the main executable.

It diagnoses leaks in-memory, handle and GDI(Graphics Device Interface) objects. So, here’s an app making other apps safer and very authentic.

We discussed the WinMo Marketplace ‘Race to Market Challenge’ that apparently seemed to be quite exciting for the devs and ISVs. But some issues have started cropping up. One of them are the registration problems that includes:

Cumbersome registration process

High cost of certification testing

Payment issues regarding credit cards

Not a student friendly program – freebies enrolled through Microsoft Dreamspark program not delighted

No copyright protection guarantee

Archaic process for identity verification, including attestation by a Public Notary

Extra charges(about $99) for each application despite of it passing the required tests

May not impress non-US citizens

With a large set of protocols defined for final submission, MS faces a tough game from the three giants-Blackberry, Apple and Nokia which are scoring high on management. Let’s see when MS fixes the bugs.
