These two images of prototype Windows Phone 7 made by Sony Ericsson were leaked. There is no word on whether this phone will see the light of day but it is certainly possible. When Sony was asked on Mobile World Congress whether they’ll stick to Android as their operating system, Sony Ericsson said in no uncertain terms that they are not focused on just one operating system. Having said that, it may be feasible to look at Windows Phone 7 as OS of choice.

Update: According to Mobile Review this Windows Phone never saw a day because Sony backed out of the deal. Too bad I think, because Sony would have kept some market loyalty with Windows Phone user.

There was circulating news over the web saying that Nokia wants a Windows Phone 7 and Sony Ericsson is planning on such a device. However, there were numerous denials on both sides regarding the phone. It was made official that such rumors are implausible and they reiterated that they aim to stick with Android. They also said that they are keeping an open door for Microsoft though they are quite conservative about it. They aim to be open minded about the various opportunities that are available. They have to be more careful and they really have to maximize their offerings since the past few releases of smart phones have gone under the radar due to poor execution. Sony made it clear that future of cooperation with Microsoft isn’t impossible:

We’ve done a lot of work with Microsoft over the years. We’ve launched a number of 6.xx products, but we made a decision not to bring a product to market in the first wave. We absolutely maintain to keep an open mind towards Windows Phone 7. We continue to engage in a relationship with Microsoft, but we haven’t made any concrete announcement about when and how we would introduce Windows Phone 7 into the portfolio.
We shouldn’t limit ourselves to one opportunity, but we aren’t yet ready to make any specific announcement about products. At this moment in time, there is clearly a galvanizing within the industry around Android as a creditable alternative to what’s out there, and we think that’s a good thing.

Now here’s a news for all the Sony Eric X1 users-get ready to pose for a tug-of-war with X2. When the pics of the ‘to be’ launched Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 showcased on XDA Developers by Nevermind, atleast I thought it to be so.

SONY ERICSSON may be planning to launch Xperia X2 on the 17 of June this month in Singapore. The invitation card mentions “entertainment unlimited”, which may be pointing towards the Xperia X2′s 8MP camera.

Well, June 17 is not that far and we will find out very soon whether it is Xperia X2 or some random dumb Sony-Ericsoon device.
