Windows 7 fixes and tricks
When the latest OS offering from Microsoft came out, there were mixed reactions regarding the new task bar. After 2 years of use, many can attest to the functionality of the task bar and how to really take advantage of jump lists. Depending on the program, the jump list can offer 1 click functions without even recalling a window that is minimized. This can also help you in quickly accessing recent documents or pin your common tasks. You do not have to deal with going though a lot of windows and dialogues to get them running. The jump list is undeniably a fantastic tool to have.
However good things do sometimes come to an end. There were some who, for no apparent reason, lost the items on the jump list. When the images are tried to be returned back, the Windows 7 does not respond and rejects the changes. It could have taken a much longer time to handle this issue but good thing there is a relatively easy fix that you can use if you had the misfortune of having this issue. Right now, there really are no founded reasons why the jump list decided to act erratically but by just deleting some files, you can be on your way to a smooth sailing relationship.
Browse to this location: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations. You will be able to see the list of the current files that are included on your jump list. Now, copy and paste all these files on a different folder. Now, browse on this location: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations. You will be able to see a similar list. Some people were able to successfully recover the jump list functionality by transferring them in a more secure location. For others they needed to delete all the files and get started with a fresh jump list which could be quite annoying for some.
Here are some tricks that you might want to use:
If you want to do something to access the jump list without right clicking, hold a file using the left button and move it to any task bar. The jump list will become visible. If you are a shortcut lover, you can go for Alt-Windows Key-Number. You can also do the drag and drop feature to put attachments on Gmail. Another close-enough features is by using Standalone stack that can resemble the stack feature of Mac. If you want, you can also right click on an icon and then it will reveal a jump list. You right click again on the main program and it will show the shortcut menu.
